Blend: 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 50% Sémillon

Winemaking & Ageing Process: The Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillion are picked together and co-fermented in barrel then left alone to rest with no stirring of the lees. The wine was aged for 10 months in 25% new French Oak (Boutes, Ermitage, Orion).

Winemaker Bio: Steve Matthiasson’s classically-balanced, restrained wines consistently earn the attention of consumers and critics alike, winning him Winemaker of the Year from both Food & Wine and the San Francisco Chronicle. Since receiving his M.S. from UC Davis in 1996, he has consulted for historic vineyards such as Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Spottswoode Winery, the Araujo Estate and Dalla Valle Vineyards. His commitment to viticulture stands as an affirmation of his belief that great wine starts in the vineyard. In his spare time, Steve enjoys skateboarding and listening to punk rock classics from the Minutemen, Black Flag, Minor Threat and Dead Kennedys.

Tasting Notes & Analysis: The Blanc is a blend from two carefully-chosen vineyards in the southern part of Napa Valley (Oak Knoll District and Yountville). The cool, foggy mornings and afternoon sea breezes from the San Pablo Bay are ideal for the racy acidity and citrus citrus characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc, while the Sémillon comes naturally endowed with the full complement of its trademark supple beeswax and fig flavours. This symbiotoc blend results in a wine that is fully ripe and textured, yet bright, zesty and supremely age-worthy.
