2021 Rheinhessen Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) – Gutswein Trocken Blend: 100% Pinot Blanc Tasting Notes: Nice brilliant yellow colour with green tints. Nose: Pleasant and intense with notes of yellow ripe fruits. Smooth structure on the palate with a good length of finish. Intense note of salty-mineralic limestone, elegant and with great finesse and creaminess. Vinification & Ageing Process: At the end of September 2021 the Pinot Blanc grapes are picked by hand at the ideal moment of their ripeness. The pressing, the vinification and the wine-maturing take place in our winery in Saulheim. Prior to pressing, we leave the crushed grapes 8 hours on their skins to extract a maximum of flavour compounds. The musts are fermented spontaneously, 60% in stainless steel tanks (1000 to 3000 litres) and 40% in 3-5 year old oak barrels (1200l and 500l). After maturation of four months on the fine lees, the wines are bottled in the springtime season following the harvest. Following his father Jakob's footsteps, Rudolf Thörle shifted the focus to traditional grape varieties, including Riesling and other Burgundian varieties. Since then, the family has invested in blocks of vines in the Grand Cru and Premier Cru of the Saulheim region. Now under the leadership of Christophe and Johannes Thorle, the quality of their wines is achieved through attention to detail in every aspect of production: horse manure and grape marc instead of artificial fertilizers, permanent greening of the plots, reduced yields, and selective hand harvesting.
